An Open Letter to the CEO of Royal Caribbean on Safety, Negligence, and Drug Use on Atlantis Cruises
I received this text message from a friend who is really upset by this tragedy:
I feel like it’s not the cruises fault these people were stupid, and he had stupid friends. The cruise never told them to bring drugs, they did that in violation of the terms and on their own accord. These aren’t children, these are men who chose to make these decisions knowing full well the consequences. No excuse like, oh well the gay community is different, is an excuse for being dumb and uneducated about the impact of drugs or doing it knowing the full impact. Drugs impact everyone, including the gay community, so no excuse like it’s special impact of gay people is valid. People need to really start taking responsibility for their own actions instead of blaming others or non quantitative reasons. Also I think if you leave someone who is clearly in harms way or close to dying in a situation like this, and their do die, the people who left him should be held responsible. I have a lot of feelings about this, and it’s frustrating that I am 22 years old, I understand the impact of drugs and why I should not do them, but these queens who always act like they are better and smarter than everyone else, are stupid enough to do these things.
